A Decade of Change

A DECADE OF CHANGE

Our church, the Baptist Conference of Bacolod, released a video statement of Pastor Joe Ascalon, our church's senior pastor, in it's official website at http://www.bccbikthus.org/. Please do watch and pray for the continuing growth of our church especially in it's expansion across the strait, in Iloilo City. Iloilo City is a fresh ground for evangelization. Let us help our church in prayer to fulfill the Great Commission that Jesus Christ has tasked us. God bless you.

Give to Caesar, Give to God

GIVE TO CAESAR, GIVE TO GOD

"Give to Caesar what is due to Caesar, Give to God what is due to God", we often hear this passage in the church or any Bible class. This statement was said by Jesus to put a point on many things. "Give to Caesar" means many things: It may mean paying taxes and respecting authority. At that time, some people do elude from paying taxes to the Roman Curator. Paying taxes is one act of respecting authority. An authority may be God given to admister peace to us. It is therefore proper to respect our authority even though how much we hate him for the sake of God only that it should not be a compromise to our faith. "Give to God" means our own tithes. God does not realy force us to pay our tithes but the concept with the "Give to Caesar" is the same. Though we are not forced like the government does to us but it is also one way of giving respect and recognizing the authority of God. We think the government deserves to receive tax so as our God. God may not force us on the tithes so some us do not give but in our conscience, we might as well give respect to God in a way we usually regret.

Insights of Faith

INSIGHTS OF FAITH

"The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold." (Psalm 18:2, NIV)

Many passages in the Bible talks about our faith especially on the Book of Psalms. The Psalms were written by David and his musicians especially for worship. I sighted one verse above. We might as well look and check at our faith. It was written by David when Saul was pursuing him because he became a threat to the kingship of Saul. The people loved David so much that they neglected Saul. Saul might as well saw that his days as king are numbered. This was such a hard time for David because he can't be safe anymore. This was his testimony of his great faith to the LORD. He mention here many things that can help an army or a soldier protect himself. There is that fortress, shield and stronghold. Our God is our only hope in times of trials. Being away from your church or family does not mean being away from the LORD. Being away is the time to focus on his will and make him first in your life. Stand in the Rock of Faith, that is Jesus Christ.

First Glimpses in the "Star of the Orient"

FIRST GLIMPSES IN THE "STAR OF THE ORIENT"

Upon arriving at the Manila Domestic Airport, my first thought was my bestfriend back home. I missed them so much. Earlier, I meet with my friends and ate some snacks with them. I was so sad. I also thought of what am I going to see in UA&P. I was actually a day late in the Freshstart (Freshmen Orientation). The next day, I went there not knowing my block. I went around and around. I asked some help from the personnel and they found that I belonged to the Block C. I went there and found that the discussion of what a master student is. I introduced my name briefly and sat. I came to know lot's of people, mostly from Chinese Christian schools. I felt so uneasy because I still thought of the people back home. The last day was a bit fairer. We prepared for the Block presentation. That was the day I knew the people a lot more and I experienced the "Block Fever". We strived hard for the block and we had plain old fun. I met with the fellow scholars and one was Mon from Southridge. I really really had lots of fun being with them. I hope that the 1st day would be a lot more fun.

Star of the Orient

STAR OF THE ORIENT

We stand together,
Joyful we gather,
As we remember,
Our alma mater.

Herald of the East Light,
Beacon of the true life,
Star of the Orient,
Lead us through the light,
With your radiance in the sky,
Guide us through the night.

Kindled by your bright flame,
We will strive in your name.

Star of the Orient,
Shine forth your light!

Let our alma mater
Flourish forever!

Let our alma mater
Flourish forever!

A Look Back To My Beloved "City of Smiles"

A LOOK BACK TO MY BELOVED CITY OF SMILES

I see myself as a sojourner, on the most important walk of my life. At first, going to Manila is a bit of a fancy to me and I'm excited but as days gone by, I saw that I would be leaving many things especially my bestfriend and the beloved ministry (Children's) I serve in BCCB. I was so saddened because I learned to love all of them. My bestfriend and I had been through many things and challenges in life in TCS and Ikthus. The fact that I would be leaving my bestfriend hit me hard. I miss the fun we had together and the her being their when I'm in pain. I was also saddened to leave the Children's Ministry. I came to love serving the LORD. In Manila, it is hard but I came to realize that I have to fulfill the greater work that God has tasked to me. God bless you all:)
